The transformation of Horizon English School pieces together two existing academic buildings with a new specialist education & sports block on the campus to enhance the curriculum offering and increase the campus capacity from 900 to 1,350 pupils in Central Dubai.
Horizon English School
Within an existing mature campus, the new building-as-pavilion develops the heritage of the existing, orchestrating a system of bespoke constructional components to bring both efficiency and delight.
The new buildings – 3-storey teaching pavilion, a new Natatorium and a refurbished Multi-Purpose Hall – are placed amongst two retained buildings to form a complete and coherent campus, with a natural turf sports pitch, outdoor play and learning areas and an enhanced pedestrian experience.
Within each pavilion, classrooms and ancillary accommodation are arranged along a central corridor with an abundance of north facing glazing to increase natural daylight and make connections to the exterior.
The elevations are balanced with a simple application of painted render as well as a metal mesh denoting a new node in the timeline of the campus.
